Sixty Days to 60
The idea of turning 60 hit me hard a few months ago. I was trying to figure out how a person begins to plan the next, and maybe last, 20 years of life. In the past, my next 20 years was going to be full of monumental life moments; my first born would turn 40, it would mark 20 years of living in Austin, more grandkids, you know, big things like that. This time around there are no big life events around the corner (as far as I know, anyway…) That’s not a bad thing…I’m really happy and content. I have a great family and a husband who loves horses almost as much as I do (cheers! applause! Yay Eddie!) My work is my play and there is nothing that I want. After a bit of thought, it didn’t take me long to decide what 60, and my next 20 years, should look like for me…..
60 should start by being a mentor to the young people around me. I remember thinking 60 was really old and old people talked about how life gets hard. At 60, aches and pains get the best of you. At 60, you worry about retirement income. At 60, you think about slowing down. I decided 60 should make me start riding ponies more.
60 should make me move faster not slower. And why not? I decided to make at least one choice each day that would take me on a fast track to 70. Not fast like I’m in a hurry to get there, but fast as in the way I want to embrace the active lifestyle I dream of continuing and will push to continue. I decided 60 should only make me want to jump higher and maybe a little faster.
60 should give me the courage to be bold. I have a great idea and I’m not going to be afraid to share it, to put a little piece of me out there. 60 means knowledgeable and experienced too! I decided I had at least one more business to launch and I would tackle it with fearless gusto.
For anyone who knows me….this might be business #60. But whose counting????
