How to find the correct hand position for English riding

This tip takes all the guesswork out of where your hands should be placed for a proper English riding position.  While mounted at the halt, let go of your reins and leave them on the horse’s neck.  Let your elbow hang naturally at your side then bend your elbow to create a downward slope from your elbow to the horse’s mouth.  From this position, let your fingertips touch to form a triangle.

Note how this determines the perfect width of your hands based on your body size.  Now you just close your fingers on the reins while keeping the same position.  You will have a perfect hand position every time!
